Therefore climate variation was analyzed mainly around the land surface, widely, synoptically, and locally. The climate variation in the Japanese Islands is affected by land and sea, and varies seasonally. Thus, seasonal variation around the land and sea surface was analyzed. The main results are as follows: 1) On the wide scale, the thermal state of the Eurasian Continent and the North Pacific changes to the contrary from winter to summer, and vice versa. Furthermore, the thermal state difference between the continent and the ocean is large in winter, but is small in summer. In addition, the phase of annual variation delays on the ocean. The climate variation is basically brought about by these, and it is influenced largely by the inter-annual shift of seasonal change. 2) On the meso-scale, the difference of the thermal state between the marginal sea,Yellow Sea, Sea of Japan, and Sea of Okhotsk, and the chains of islands and the peninsulas around the seas, becomes clear in spring and fall. Especially, from spring to early summer, the sea surface temperature of the marginal seas is remarkably cooler than the land surface temperature of surrounding areas. Therefore, meso-scale anticyclones are more likely to develop. In the warm current areas of the marginal seas, the difference of temperature between land and sea becomes remarkable in severe winter. And meso-scale cyclones develop. 3) On the local scale, the thermal states of the land and sea surfaces interchange between the night and the day. The difference of temperature between land and sea surfaces is small in hot summer, but it is large in severe winter. Therefore the reverse of thermal state between the night and the day is clear in hot summer, and the sea surface has a great influence on climate variation.
