The popularity of illuminated manuscript is smaller than other medieval art works（mosaic, wall painting, sculpture, stained glass, architecture）in Japan. However there are a few illuminated manuscripts and fly leaves in Japanese collection.\nThe images of illuminated manuscript remind us of something medieval or western.\nThis paper looks into a history of studies on illuminated manuscripts in Japan from 1960s to present. Firstly we show how manuscript illumination is commented in art series from 1960s to 90s.
