In regional Chinese society (Shaoxing) , various influences on the dramas were analyzed in March and September of 2004. One major result of the study seemed to indicate that seasonal factors did not have great effects on the performance of traditional dramas. On the contrary, dramas were performed all round the year. During the investigation the first thing carefully examined was the background of the dramas performance. It was discovered that, in many cases, main theme s of the dramas were related to some kind of a desire for economic advancement . Many times, these dramas expressed thanks for the improvement of local economic conditions while celebrating the rebirth of a local deity. In Shaoxing, Lianhualuo, Yinggeban and Baojuan have a high popularity among people in the rural religions. Moreover, the common characteristics in the most popular plays were: (1) The plays were performed at a low cost; (2) the audience could sufficiently understand the folk dramas; (3) the contents or themes of the dramas were easy for the audience to identify with; (4) the dramas contained humour which had a cathartic effect on the high levels of stress experienced in daily life; (5) the actors and actresses were very skilled and, at the same time, strived to fulfil the public's desire for economic wealth and prosperity., Article}, pages = {221--234}, title = {中国民間演劇の現状 -紹興の蓮花落・鸚哥班・宝巻を中心にー}, volume = {20}, year = {2005} }
