町のうち現在6 町で、三味線が加わり、笛の旋律を補強する。\n一般に、祭り囃子というと太鼓や鉦などの打楽器が囃子の主体となるが、新湊の曳山囃子では、笛が囃子を主導する。笛は、周辺地域の曳山囃子や、新湊地区の獅子舞の囃子に比べると低い音高のものが使われることから、曳山には、華やかさよりも、優雅な音色が求められていると考えられる。太鼓は、大太鼓1 個の上に3~4個の小太鼓を並べ、一つの木枠に入れたもので、周辺地域では高岡市伏木や射水市海老江でしか見られない特徴のある形態である。\n囃子の曲も、13 の山町それぞれが20 曲前後を伝承し、周辺地域に比べて曲数の多さが際立っている。現行の曳山囃子を分析した結果、曲目と笛の旋律によって、13の山町の囃子は3 つのグループに分類できることが明らかになった。このうち、7 町(古新町、長徳寺、三日曽根、法土寺町、奈呉町、新町、紺屋町)とサブグループ2 町(立町、東町)は、歴史的には菊屋派といわれる囃子の系統を受け継ぎ、1 町(荒屋町)は桧物派の系統を受け継いでいると考えられる。また、残り3
