The reason is that its luburicating and frictional characteristics are great. Because of these characteristics, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) has been normally used as a material of artificial joints. On the other hand, a harder material was stainless steel normally. Ceramics begins to be used recently. Therefore characteristics of friction and wear are needed in those combination. In this paper, the performances in combination between four kinds of ceramics and UHMWPE were widely researched concerning friction and wear.
