The chemical composition of the specimen is correspond to AISI M2, but the V content is up to 10% and the S content is 0.4%. The effect of 5% Co content addition is studied. The higher the C content of the quenched and tempered specimen is, the higher its hardness is, and in the case of 9%V high-speed steel is hardened to 67.5 H_RC. MC carbide coarsens according to V content upper than 8%V, The higher the V content is over the 6%V, the lower the cutting ability is on discontinuous cutting test by flying tool, and the higher it is on high speed continuous cutting test.
