The heat consumption per ton of regenerated iron is nearly equal to that in the blast furnace. The heat necessary for the reducing, the melting and other reactions is rather small, because the main material used in this case is steel scrap instead of iron ores in the blast furnace, however, the heat lost with the waste gases and by the conduction and the radiation is larger than that in blast furnace.
