Jamesは、1884年、感情研究にとって記念すべき論文を書いた。それがここに掲げた「感情とは何かWhat is an emotion?」という論文である。ここで初めて、感情の末梢起源説として有名なジェームズ・ランゲ説James-Lange theoryが提唱された。情動は「怖いから逃げるのではなく、逃げるから怖い」という考え方で、その当時から情動の中枢説は考えられており、彼の末梢起源説は発表時から議論を巻き起こしていたことは容易に想像される。しかし彼の論文を詳細に眺めると、彼は身体変化を伴う情動についてだけ議論しているのであって、情動一般については議論していないことに注意を要する。そして身体変化を伴わない情動は「冷たくて中性的な状態」だけが残っていると指摘し情動における身体変化の重要性を指摘している。しかしこのジェームズの末梢起源説はキャノンCannonによって1920年代に完全に否定され、今日、感情の中枢起源説に取って代わっている。\n「感情とは何か」のテーマに答えるのは非常に困難で、その研究分野は、神経科学、心理学、哲学、社会学などの学際的な領域に渡っている。それらの研究を通して、感情の何がどこまで明らかになったのかと改めて考えてみると、130年前のジェームズの時代と比べれば情報は格段に多くなり、脳科学を中心とした神経メカニズムも明らかになってきているが、依然不明なところが多い。人びとから寄せられる質問の中で多いのは「なんとか嫌な感情をコントロールできないのか」という身に迫ったものが圧倒的に占めている。われわれは平和で安心でき、心穏やかな生活を送りたいと念じているが、人と人の間で生活する宿命として感情の軋轢は避けがたい。\nわれわれは過去3000年の長きにわたって感情に関する考察を深め、その知恵を貯め込んできたが、未だにこのような負の感情の制御に関して有効な対策を見いだせていないでいる。\n最近の科学的知識の進展には目の見張るものがある。改めて感情の研究で、ジェームズが発した「感情とは何か」について過去130年間の進展を考慮しながら議論してみたい。","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_3_description_40":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ(DSpace)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"Article","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_description_6":{"attribute_name":"引用","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"研究紀要
