However, specific information, such as the number and content of the exchange activities and the reason for not having exchange activities, is not clear. We considered that it is necessary to explore some points for improvement based on the current situation so we conducted a questionnaire survey subjecting public kindergartens and nursery schools in order to make the exchange between children more significant. The number of survey distributed was 189 and 136 were collected (72% collection rate). Eighty nine percent of kindergartens and nursery schools had exchange activities in the year of 2014. The number of activity was 2 to 3 times for more than half of the kindergartens and nursery schools, and about 30% had more than 4 times. The purpose of the activity was not only for interactions, but also utilized the opportunities of school events such as sports day and evacuation training. The most common age of children who have exchange was 5 years old class with 1st and 2nd graders, or 5th and 6th graders. The content of the activity was to have the toddler enjoy playing with the primary school students such as playing tag and hide and seek. However, when it is close to starting school, they had interactions where preschool children can imagine themselves attending primary school.
