In the unit of Introductory Medicine, PBL sessions in lecture-based learning were held twice. Five cases related to telephone consultation and social work activities were presented to the subjects in advance, and they were asked to study the cases. On PBL sessions, one lecturer introduced the area of medicine and the aim of the sessions for 30 minutes, followed by 40 minutes\nof small-group learning and 20 minutes of discussion in the whole class. Before and after PBL sessions, the subjects were asked to fill in a 32-item questionnaire with 6 response categories, ranging from 1: strongly disagree to 6: strongly agree. Wilcoxon\u0027s signed rank test was used to compare PBL sessions for conventional lecture-based learning (LBL). A two-tailed P value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.\nResults: The rating for learning behavior such as studying at library and accessing the Internet was significantly higher in PBL than in LBL. The rating for the usefulness of understanding lecture contents and raising questions was also significantly higher in PBL than in LBL.
