It is desirable to make j + m + n as small as possible, keeping m + n smaller than a certain permitted limit. There are two ways to consider to realize this desire. \n(1) PH of the solution near the anode should be made as small as possible to make j small and pH of the upper part of the bulk of the bath should be made as large as possible to make m + n small (by proper cell construction, etc.). \n(2) The composition of the bath and the conditions of the electrolysis, under the assumption that the bath is homogeneous and the electrolysis is in steady state, should be appropriately selected so as to make j + m + n small keeping m + n smaller than the limit. The second way is fully discussed, the well-known Foerster\u0027s theory of chlorate formation and Knibbsbs\u0027 proposition being taken as the principal bases of the discussion. It is desirable to make j + m + n as small as possible, keeping m + n smaller than a certain permitted limit. There are two ways to consider to realize this desire.
